Harassment Charges for Massachusetts Police Officer
A police officer in Holyoke, MA agreed to a plead deal in a case involving the harassment of his girlfriend.
According to Masslive.com, the officer accepted a CWOF (continuation without a finding) to charges of criminal harassment. A CWOF is an admission that there are sufficient facts to find you guilty. He also admitted same to a theft charge, where he stole a cell phone in order to threaten his girlfriend via text message.
As part of the agreement, the officer will be on probation for 2 years, have to attend a domestic violence education program, give up his guns, and resign from the police force. He had been a veteran Holyoke police narcotics detective.
The district court judge in Hampden County still has to accept the terms of the deal. In most cases, judges go along with deals agreed to by both the defendant and the prosecutor, but it is possible he will reject the deal and insist on a full guilty plea instead of a CWOF, or other changes to the sentencing agreement.
