Texting While Driving Ban
The new Massachusetts law banning texting while driving goes into effect on Oct 1, 2010. Cell phone use is still allowed for those 18 and over, but texting or reading email while driving will be subject to a traffic citation and a fine of $100-$500.
The texting/email restriction from your mobile phone/I-Phone/BlackBerrry will apply even if you are at a stop light.
Massachusetts legislators did not choose to require hand-free phone use, so you can still dial and hold up your phone while driving.
Massachusetts is the 29th state to pass some kind of ban on texting behind the wheel.
For those under 18, all cell phone use is banned while driving. Violation of this law will result in a 60 day license suspension and an education class to have his or her driver’s license reinstated.
