Arraignment

If you are required to appear at an arraignment at the Lynn district court after being arrested, you will first look for the Probation department inside the courthouse. It is standard to check in before your case is called up in the arraignment session.

the probation department will let you know your options to get a court appointed attorney if you are interested and qualify financially. If you have hired us or another attorney, or plan to do so, you can skip the evaluation, but still need to alert probation that you are present for arraignment.

In the arraignment session courtroom, you will go up before the judge when your name is called, and plead not guilty after the charges against you are read. The court officer will assign you another court date to appear at a pretrial conference to discuss your case going forward, and possibly a plea deal at that time.

If we represent you at the arraignment, and you plan to work out a deal and not fight the case at a trial, we can often take care of that day, if the DA is willing to dispose of the case for a fair deal.

So it makes sense to get an attorney before your arraignment if you can for this and other reasons.
