Uxbridge District Court Criminal Charge

The Uxbridge District Court is where criminal and civil matters originating in the Southern Worcester county towns of Blackstone, Douglas, Millville, Northbridge, Sutton and Uxbridge are heard.

This is mostly a rural area, but it contains one one highway, the Worcester-Providence turnpike (route 146), for those traveling between the Worcester area and Rhode Island. That highway is patrolled by the Massachusetts State Police, so troopers may be in this court on criminal charges resulting from highway stops.

They will let you know where to go for a Clerk Magistrate’s hearing, and note that you are present for your hearing.

You are not required to have an attorney represent you, but it is absolutely worth considering the benefits, and increased likelihood of getting your case dropped, and no charges ever being filed.

Where do I go for an Arraignment at the Uxbridge District Court?

Once you go through security, arraignment session will be in the courtroom directly in front of you. However, you need to check in with the probation department before heading to the arraignment, so leave yourself some extra time and plan ahead.

The Probation Department is downstairs. You can find the stairs to the left of the Arraignment Session before you reach the hallway with the Clerk’s Office. Once you are downstairs, enter the hallway and you will see the Probation Department on your left.

Probation can evaluate you for a court appointed attorney if you qualify financially. If you already hired your own attorney, or know you won’t be considered indigent, you can skip this step.

Wait for your arraignment inside the arraignment session. When your name is called, and the charge read in open court, you will plead not guilty, and get another court date for a pretrial.

You don’t need an attorney to be present at an arraignment, but if you have one, your court process might be accelerated, and there are other real advantages that we can discuss.
