Wareham District Court

Wareham is a fairly quiet courthouse covering a large number of fairly rural towns in Plymouth county. Because it covers a lot of territory along the southern stretch of I-495, more OUI cases than average are heard in this courthouse.

The court’s jurisdiction covers the towns of Carver, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, Middleboro, Rochester and Wareham in Plymouth county. Traffic stops by the Mass State Police along 495 and Interstate 195 are also handled here.

In addition to any arrests by the local police departments of these towns, traffic stops by the Mass State Police along 495 and Interstate 195 are also handled here.

Where is the Wareham District court located?

The district courthouse is located at:

2200 Cranberry Highway
West Wareham, MA 02576

Is it easy to park at the Wareham court?

Yes, there is plenty of free parking around the building.

Can I get to court via public transportation?

No, we are out in fairly rural Plymouth county. It’s easy to get to by car since it is right off of 495, but there is no public transit. A cab or Uber will get you hear, or you’ll have to grab a ride from a friend if you don’t have a driver’s license or it’s under suspension.

Definitely do not drive on a suspended license, especially if the reason you need to be in court is related to a charge that caused the suspension. That can cause you real problems, and someone may definitely spot you.

Where do I go for an Arraignment at the Wareham District Court?

For any arraignment, we first check in with the Probation department. One of the things they do is evaluate you for eligibility for a court-appointed lawyer if you are interested. If you already hired us, you don’t need to go through it, and it takes less time.

They will let us know the arraignment session courtroom.

If you are at the courthouse for an arraignment without a lawyer, that is fine, many people have not secured counsel so soon after being arrested.

After pleading not guilty before the judge, the court will assign a pretrial date where your case will move forward.

Where do I go for a Clerk Magistrate’s Hearing in Wareham?

All Clerk Magistrate’s hearings (or, show cause hearings) begin with a quick visit to the Clerk’s office. There we will check in, and identify the courtroom where the hearings are being held.

Clerk Magistrate’s hearings are the BEST opportunity to stop a criminal charge before it even exists.

You are not required to have an attorney at a Clerk’s hearing, and you can’t even get a court appointed attorney. But you are far more likely to get a favorable outcome such as a case continued or dismissal, with or without certain conditions attached, if an attorney is there to help you. Preparation and experience are critical in winning a show cause hearing.

We represent clients at more Clerk Magistrate’s hearings than any other Massachusetts law firm and have been to the Wareham district court dozens of times.

What about a pretrial Conference or trial session?

Pretrial conferences and hearing rooms always depend on the judges and space availability that day.

Unfortunately, this court isn’t great for attorney/client conferences. There isn’t really any private space to discuss your case. In good weather, it is often best to go outside for us to speak privately.

Where should I eat lunch near the Wareham District Court?

Did I mention it’s not really near anything? There is a 7-Eleven next door if you are desperate, pressed for time, or on trial for lack of taste buds.

The courthouse is West Wareham, not on the Cape Cod/touristy side of town (East Wareham), so choices are slim nearby. Vel’s Cafe is a mile and a half south on Route 28.

A little further is Casa Cancun for Mexican, which is about 2 and a half miles. In that area is also a Red Robin, and a number of fast food choices, such as a Subway, Qdoba, and Five Guys.
